The Most Desirable School in Fort Worth: Tanglewood Elementary
What makes one neighborhood better than others? What community is worth the higher price of admission? Some folks want a new or near-new home. Others want to be in an older, established neighborhood. Some buyers insist on amenities like tennis courts and beautiful walking trails. Others are fine with just a small pool to splash in on hot days. All good neighborhoods have one thing in common: great schools. In Fort Worth, a home in the Tanglewood Elementary School district is highly desirable.
It Started With One Dollar
Tanglewood Elementary School celebrated their 60th anniversary this year. In 1960, the land was given to the City of Fort Worth for one dollar. The catch? Build a public elementary school. Architecturally, the school has the modern, unassuming look of many schools built in that era. But it has something unique from many other schools – the dedicated involvement of the community. Tanglewood has a strong and intensely loyal PTA. Their fundraising and volunteerism – as well as a team of high-quality educators – have kept the school top-tier. How great of a school? GreatSchools.org rates Tanglewood Elementary 10 out of 10 overall and in multiple categories. Proficiency in reading, math, science, and writing are all far above the Texas state average.
A New Sister School
The area around Tanglewood Elementary continues to expand. To handle the growing population, a new $32 million school is being built. The Overton Park Elementary School is still in the construction phase, but nearly completed. The 91,857 square foot space sits on nearly 6 acres. About 550 students from grades PK through fifth will attend the school. It will have many educational features including physical education, art, music, and science. Each grade will have four classrooms. Drive by and take a gander. It’s located at 4049 Kingsridge Rd, Fort Worth, Texas.

Join the Tanglewood Parent-Teacher Association (PTA)! They raise thousands each year to fill in any budget gaps. The PTA members have provided the school funds for after-school enrichment classes, playground equipment, computers and iPads in each classroom – and much more.
The PTA is always looking for volunteers. You can become a homeroom rep or help out in the library. There are several annual events you can participate in such as the Book Fair and Artapalooza. The PTA is highly organized; they will find a place for you that will leverage your interests and skills. For the safety of the children, Fort Worth ISD requires an online background check for every volunteer each year.
Cold, Hard Cash
The Tanglewood PTA has a Facebook group. This is a good way to learn more about the school. It is a private group; just request to join. The PTA website has more information about the school such as an events calendar and their policies and procedures. You will also find enrollment and academics information. Contacts are provided should you have questions or need further assistance.
